Pembroke Wanderers Hockey Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Alan Giles as Club President. Alan is a multi-generation and lifelong member of PWHC, starting in the early 80’s knocking a ball around at the age of 2 with his family.
Progressing through all levels in the club from Colts, U14, U16, U21, Alan started playing men’s hockey alongside his dad on the 6ths team. Inevitably, he broke through to captain the Men’s 1st team for several successful years in the mid-2000s, lifting numerous League titles, Indoor titles, Irish Junior and Senior cups, IHL trophies as well as representing the men’s “golden generation” in the EHL.
From an International career perspective, he represented Ireland playing at U16’s, U18s, and U21s, earning 30 senior caps from 2009 to 2011.
Having been an active player for many years, it’s not surprising to hear that Alan has also coached numerous sides in the club including the Ladies 2XI, Men’s 2XI, assistant player-coach of the Men’s 1XI and he is now currently coaching the Men’s 2XI as well as his children’s team at St. Matthews.
“It is a great honour to take on the club presidency after being involved in the club as a player, coach, and social member for many years. I’m really excited about being involved during the club’s very special centenary year and I welcome the energy and enthusiasm of the committee and I am looking forward to working with them, the trustees, and the wider club members on the various club projects planned.”
The executive committee would also like to thank the outgoing president Adam Keating for all his hard work during his tenure and wish him well in his future endeavours.
