Benny Atkinson Boys U16 Cup Final Date
On St. Patrick’s Day coming both of our Pembroke U16 youth teams are in their respective provincial cup finals in Three Rock Rovers.
The girls U16 team play at 10am and the boys play at 12pm – both games on the front pitch.
While the girls are regular finalists (going for 3 in a row now) it is the first appearance for the boys in a long time (12 years by our reckoning). To have both teams in the final is a tremendous achievement for the club and a first for us since our youth sections were formed.
I am asking you to consider taking the time on Paddy’s Day to visit Three Rock Rovers to support either or both of those matches. On the boys side many of the names will be familiar to senior men’s captains and players – Finn O’Neill, Jack Watchorn, Felix O’Toole, Jack Flanagan, Jacob Davy, Callum Keeley, Alex Gallagher, Ethan Tracey, and Matthew Van Den Berg.
The team is also co-coached by M1s players Cian Murphy and Isaac Johnson so we have connections right through the men’s section with these boys who are already playing important roles in the senior men’s club! The goalkeeper is also young Benjamin Atkinson – son of our own Stewart Atkinson – and grandson of the Pembroke legend who gives his name to the competition – “The Benny Atkinson Leinster Boys U16 Cup”.
Appearances in the final are precious for boys hockey in Pembroke and the team and their parents would be over the moon to see as many Pembroke senior members actively and noisily supporting the team on Thursday morning.
Please consider stopping by and showing the boys you care.
