Ladies 3rds pass Rathgar Cup test

The second round of the cup was hosted by Rathgar in The High School on 7th December 2013. Unfortunately due to clashing hockey commitments (what a “Club Player (of the year)”), Mossie was unable to stay beyond the pre-match team talk, but Eimear McCarthy was available to step into his breeches.

The first half was relatively uneventful with the majority of the game being played between the 25s and both teams defences allowing very little through. Although, as the first half came to a close, Pembroke seemed to be getting a slight upper hand.

The second half began with Pembroke winning two penalty corners within the first ten minutes. Both were converted into goals by Aoife Sherriff with assists by Sophie Craig and Elaine Thompson respectively.

The battle continued between the two teams with both defences being put under enormous pressure.
Despite some very nervous moments with Pembroke having to defend a number of penalty corners, Rathgar were unable to break us down.

Final score 2-0 to Pembroke – they now meet Monkstown 1sts in the Cup Quarter Finals.
