Ladies 8ths book semi-final spot plus weekend Cup roundup

Coming off the back of a draw in Sutton last Wednesday, a very determined 8ths team took to the field on Saturday for their Quarter Final tie against Rathgar.
It was a thrilling end to end game with a rally of goals, which kept the home supporters cheering.

Jude (the Goal Machine) – Can anyone catch her?

Rebecca James hit the back of the net on two occasions. Her first goal a wonderful individual effort saw her drumming the keeper and slotting the ball in to the net.
Rathgar also found the net but this was answered by Jude Hayward. Rathgar levelled for a second time. The backs then closed shop, Catherine Collins and Karen Billington leading by example held fast. Rebecca James got her sick to a crossed ball to see the 8ths progress to the semi finals of the Cup after this 3-2 victory.

The girls will meet Muckross 4ths in the semi-finals on Sunday March 3rd. Woop Woop!

The 5ths will have to wait to play their Cup quarter final – Old Alex and Rathgar have yet to complete their previous round encounter, so Saturdays game could not go ahead.

The 2nds went out of the Jacqui Potter Leinster Cup on Sunday in disappointment after a 2-1 loss to Railway 1sts. Shona Doyle had given Mick O’Conner’s girls the lead in the first half but Railway equalised before half time. The girls tired in the second half as the Division 1 side took a hold of the game, but they defended stoutly and with guts until the very end. A final minute goal from a corner breakdown gave Railway the win.

The Ladies 4ths will face Loreto this weekend in their Cup Qtr Final, Mossie’s girls are in good form following a 0-3 win away to Tullamore – not an easy feat! Julie and Ash Sheriff scored from play while Heather rounded things off from a short-corner. The 4ths have the best record in the ladies section, indeed they are unbeaten this season and lie 3 points ahead in Div 6 with two games in hand. Their cup game is at 3pm in Loreto – support the girls if you can!

Following on from their previous round penalty flicks heroics over YMCA the Ladies 7ths face North Kildare in their Cup Qtr Final. The game is home at 15.30 and all support will be gratefully appreciated!
