Ladies advance in Cups, weekend roundup Jan 16
Diocesan 1 Pembroke 3rds 3 (Louise Tolerton, Fiona Keenan(2))
Loreto 0 Pembroke 6ths 1 (Karlijn Wever)
Pembroke 8ths 1 Malahide 0 (Sarah Williams)
Three quater final Leinster Cup matches played on Saturday and all three won. The 8ths got the ball rolling early on with a 1-0 win over Malahide, Sarah Williams cracking in the winner in a closely faught game. The girls will play blah in the Semi Finals on blah.
Next up the Ladies 3rds were away to Diocesan and showed no sign of a long winter break, taking a 3-0 lead into the second half. Louise Tolerton (first goal of season) smashed home from the top of the D before some clever interplay between Alison Pigot and Anna O Neill set Fiona Keenan to slap home from the P-spot. Fiona added a third shortly before the break, however Pembroke sat back on the lead and 2 well taken goals , the first from Vicky Jones off a corner, the second from open play made it a nervy last few minutes for Eoin Murphy’s charges.
So no pressure on the 6ths then! The girls are having a fine season under Caroline Wharton, but coming up against Loreto 5ths, the only side to have beaten them in the league, they knew they were going to have to work hard
