Please find below the progress summary and next steps of the PWHC Padel project.

Planning

We received a request for further information (“RFI”) from Dublin City Council planning department. This is a normal event and is used by the council to address any issues on which they are looking for additional clarity.

The two areas of focus of the RFI are:

1. The Traffic Management Plan, with a focus on cycling infrastructure

2. The drainage plan for the site

We have now engaged third parties to liaise directly with the council to ensure that the RFI submission meets the requirements.

In terms of timelines, from when we submit the RFI, the planning authority has four weeks to make a final decision. Depending on the decision, the party that lodged an observation or Pembroke then has 4 weeks to appeal. Once an appeal is lodged, An Bord Pleanala typically takes between 4-9 months depending on the complexity of the project.

Operational Design
The Padel sub-committee is tasked with researching and recommending an operational model for Padel at Pembroke, building a business plan and making a proposal to members with a recommendation.

We have broadly completed our initial research phase, including the club survey, club presentations and many stakeholder engagements.

We are currently engaging with third party operators to analyse how best Padel would fit into the existing club infrastructure for the benefit of the hockey club and its members.

Fundraising
There is a clear preference to fund the project internally. We will shortly share details and invite expressions of interest from members.

Summary
There is a lot of hard work ongoing to progress the project. To note no development will proceed without a full proposal being presented for a members’ vote, at the AGM or a special EGM.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Strategic Projects Officer – Patrick Good Patrick.good@pembrokewanderers.ie
