The 2015 Linda Ryan Club Person of the Year

The 2015 Linda Ryan Club Person of the Year Award was given to Sammy Atkinson with the following motivation.

“It gives me great pleasure to present the 2015 Linda Ryan Club Person of the Year Award to someone who has been a Pembroke member for over 50 years. He comes down to the Club on a regular basis and yet – he is unknown to a lot of people.

He is one of four hockey playing brothers and he once played in an ISC final in Glasheen Road in Cork. Sammy plays a huge role in keeping our top-of-the-range facilities what they are, excellent facilities we sometimes take for granted.

Without reward, except for maybe the work itself, Sammy makes sure that the pitches and the grounds are well maintained. Sammy volunteers for any taskforce taking on repairs and improvements wherever needed. Sammy is an important part of the car parking, which is vital to the Club as it provides the lion share of our income stream.”
