Position Title: Club Manager

Reports To: Club President

Overview

Pembroke Wanderers Hockey Club is one of Ireland’s largest and most successful hockey clubs, with over 1,000 members across junior, men’s and women’s sections.

The Club operates extensive sporting and commercial facilities including hockey pitches, clubhouse facilities, commercial parking, room hire, function hire and bar operations.

The Club Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, administration and commercial operation of the Club, ensuring it is financially sustainable, professionally operated and delivers an outstanding experience for members, visitors and commercial customers.

Key Responsibilities

Club Operations

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Club and its facilities.
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming and professional environment.

Facilities Management

  • Oversee maintenance and development of pitches, clubhouse, grounds and parking facilities.
  • Manage maintenance contractors and service providers.

Commercial Revenue Management

  • Maximise commercial income from external use of facilities.
  • Identify new revenue-generating opportunities.

Bar & Hospitality Operations

  • Oversee bar operations through Club staff.

Financial Management

  • Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting.
  • Monitor income and expenditure against budget.
  • Prepare monthly management reports.
  • Manage payroll and wages administration.

Staff Management

  • Lead, support and develop administrative and operational staff.

Events & Community Engagement

  • Promote the Club within the local community.

Member Services

  • Ensure a high standard of member communication and service.
  • Support membership recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Handle member enquiries and resolve issues promptly.

Governance & Reporting

  • Prepare operational and financial reports for the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.
  • Ensure compliance with Club policies and governance requirements.

Experience

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in operations, facility management, hospitality, leisure, sport or club management.
  • Experience managing a licensed premises.
  • Managing budgets and commercial revenue streams.
  • Managing staff and contractors.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong financial and business acumen.
  • Experience implementing committee and board decisions.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within a sports club, governing body or leisure facility.
  • Knowledge of hockey or amateur sport structures in Ireland.
  • Experience in facility hire, venue management or commercial property operations.

Employment Details

  • Full-time permanent position
  • Occasional evening and weekend attendance required
  • Based primarily at Pembroke Wanderers Hockey Club, Dublin 4
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
