Ladies 6ths dispatch Swords in impressive round 1 win

No mean feat travelling to ALSAA for an early morning tip off, but our Ladies 6ths managed it well enough, coming away with the narrow 1-0 win to set up a round two tie against Old Alex in the next round of the cup.
It was cold and early but they were pumped and looking sharp in their warm up. Under the direction Dave Loughrey, who sacrificed his golf outing to get us into shape (thanks Dave!) we had a good strong start. We were on the attack until Swords started to gain pace towards half time and the whistle blew with the score remaining 0-0.
Swords continued to fight from the beginning of the second half but Pembroke were never far behind and earned themselves a short corner. Bernie took a strike from the top of the D it deflected off the defenders stick and an unforgiving Laura Ward pushed it in from the right post! With a new lease of life the 6ths finished well with their 3rd win in a row after a slow start to the season.
In the words of our Captain Roisin Watson, ‘We are a team of winners not losers’. Bring on Old Alex in the second round!
